Ceramic Sculpture
Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium and what you can create from a lump of clay
is almost limitless. In this class we explore a variety hand building methods and
design concepts that will help students achieve their goals. A variety of texturing
methods, surface treatments and glazing possibilities will be presented.
Totems — a method for creating tall ceramic structures composed of small modular
components threaded over a central support is presented. Mid-range stoneware clay
and glazes will be used, making the structure suitable for indoor or outdoor display.
Beginning and advanced students welcome.
Material fee covers 50 pounds of clay, glazes, bisque and glaze firing. Should you
choose to do a totem, you may build your own armature [we’ll show you
how] or you can purchase one at the classroom. $40 fee for armature is payable
to the contractor.
